Student Allocation
|
The following tools and methods may be combined to produce an allocation procedure that satisfies all parts
of your institution. Within any single implementation, it is possible to mix and match these methods. For example,
one subject may wish to have students choose first-come/first-served, while another may want to use the preference
entry and sort method.
During implementation, an Allocate+ consultant will discuss your needs with you and help
you decide the optimal method.

Preference Entry

The Preference Entry Module allows students to browse available timeslots for all activities their enrolment
dictates and asks them to specify their personal preferences for timeslots
they would like to attend. The Preference Entry Module collects these
preferences over a specified period of time, at all times providing popularity
indicators to students to help them decide how likely they are to be given
their choices.
Most importantly, this module is not "first come first served"
providing many benefits in resource management and student equity issues.
These preferences are later sorted and allocated by the Preference Sort.

Allocation Adjustment

The Allocation Adjustment module allows students to view their allocations on-line.
Students may change their allocations by choosing a vacant
seat from any of the activities that are not full.
This is a first come, first
served system and provides students with an instant reallocation. Students who
have not been allocated an activity, for whatever reason, may use this module
to select from remaining seats.
Clash detection is operational throughout this
process.

Preference Sort

|
The Preference Sort takes students preferences, applies ranking rules based on local policies,
shuffles students randomly within each ranking, and allocates students to seats based on their preferences,
the available resources, and the students entire timetable.
An example of a local ranking rule is "part-time or dual degree students should be given preference over other students".
Students are able to log-in and view the sort results and make any changes they see fit via the
Allocation Adjustment module.

Auto Allocation
|
 |
|
The Auto Sort facility will rank and allocate students without preferences. This module could be used to force-fill
vacant spaces with unallocated students after the other processes have completed. It could also be used to start from
scratch and produce an optimal timetable by matching available students to available resources.
A "sort optimising agent"
will exhaustively move and reallocate students until only unallocateable students remain. This information may then
be used to optimise the spread of room bookings.
